Post election reflections and solutions.

I was disappointed, to put it mildly, after 11/04/2008.  I was not surprised either.  There have been many post mortem disections.  Here is my 2 cents.

1.  Yes, the American people went for the American Idol candidate.  He happened to be on the other side.  This is not new in US politics.  George W. Bush benefited from this in 2004 vs. John Kerry.  There were voters who thought they "could have a beer with Bush" as opposed to the elitist Kerry.  Ronald Reagan also swung this crowd vs. the purse lipped Jimmy Carter and the cypher Walter Mondale.  Andrew Jackson won over the uber patrician John Quincy Adams.  It's not new And it can work both ways.  This voting Bloc has been present since the beginning of time.
2.  It seems that many in the Republican party want one Conservative faction or another to leave the party.  They think this will contribute to future Electoral success.  Wrong!  Why?  The most success has happened when we have united on basic issues.  Do I agree with everything Rudi Guliani and Christine Todd Whitman propose?  No.  However, they did strike agreement with taxes(Whitman) and crime/national security(Guliani).  Arlen Specter was on record of stopping Clinton's 1st Stimulus bill in 1993.  These 3 politicians are referred to as RINOS.  People forget that they run in districts/states that are 50/50 at best.  We need to keep them.  Remember Guliani was for those judges that were Originalist in their interpretation of the Constitution.  The same goes for Evangelicals.  Yes, we realize lower taxes and respect for private property is a benefit for all[I'm one of them].  I have no desire to establish a theocracy.  If one's person's desire does not break my leg or pick my pocket, I have no quarrell with you.  I've made a short story long; it makes no sense to dissolve what has been and would be a winning coalition.
3.  Right now we have to find out what can be done in the future.  What can be done regarding the Fairness Doctrine?  I can't believe that companies like Clear Channel would lay down and die without a challenge.  The misnamed Employee Free Choice Act is one that scares me.  I am not against labor unions if it is freely chosen by a member.  The businesses that have "gone Union" deserved it.  There are so many people who voted for Obama who will be bitter in a years time.  They will realize, belatedly, that they voted themselves out of a job.  I, however don't know what I can do if some Tony Soprano type tells me to vote union when I don't want to do that.

I, for one, do not want to listen to the Eeyores of our side.  The US has more checks and balances than Zimbabwe, Russia, or Venezuela.  Any over reaching in the past by any faction has run aground.  This is cause for optimism.  So, any suggestions for us foot soldiers?
